II want to let you in on something that’s significantly transforming how job seekers land interviews and get hired: artificial intelligence.
After 22 years as a resume writer and coach, I’ve seen a lot of trends come and go, but AI isn’t just another tool – it’s a game changer. It’s already reshaping how companies recruit, how job postings are written, and even how applications are screened. That means if you’re in the job market or even just thinking about your next career move, AI is affecting you whether you realize it or not.
Here’s the good news: instead of resisting it, I use AI (and specifically ChatGPT) as a partner and a tool to help my clients get ahead. It allows me to write sharper resumes, uncover hidden opportunities, and prepare you for interviews in ways that are more targeted than ever before.
My Approach
AI is here to stay. Ignoring it would put my clients at a disadvantage. Years ago, my mother-in-law worried that calculators would stop kids from learning math. The truth is calculators made it easier to do more complex math faster. AI works the same way. It is not about replacing experience, strategy, or judgment. It is about using a powerful tool to get better outcomes.
My Responsibility
My job is to help people get hired. That means I need to understand how AI is already shaping recruiting best practices and how their job searches can be managed differently. It is a moving target, but I must stay current to make sure I am giving my clients accurate and relevant guidance. My community of writers and coaches is generous in sharing information and ideas through webinars and presentations.
Disclosures
I always tell clients when I have used ChatGPT. It is not a secret and no one has ever objected. In fact it’s been my writing partner for this newsletter.

Real-World Wins with Clients
Here’s how AI has already made a difference for people I’ve worked with:
- Career Transition: A client wanted to move from being a radio producer to a podcast producer. We used ChatGPT to identify transferable skills. That confirmed that the move was realistic. We incorporated this information into his new resume.
- Job Search Research: A client needed to expand his professional network as part of his job search. ChatGPT identified six professional associations, twelve upcoming events and a list of target companies that were all relevant. It gave us a roadmap on how to start his job search.
- Interview Coaching: An executive applying to FedEx had a job description heavy on “leadership”. By comparing public information for both FedEx and UPS, we discovered surprisingly different philosophies between the two companies. This guided our interview coaching.
Why This Matters for You
AI isn’t replacing the work I do, it’s strengthening it. By blending my 22 years of experience with the efficiency of AI, I can help you:
- Create resumes that speak to both human readers and applicant tracking systems.
- Discover opportunities you may never have considered.
- Walk into interviews prepared with company-specific insights.
- Navigate your career transition with clarity and confidence.
The Bottom Line
AI is here to stay and if you’re serious about your next career move, you don’t want to be left behind. My role is to make sure you’re prepared for today’s hiring realities while still getting the personalized coaching and strategy that only a human can provide.
