Terms of Service
Engagement and Service Agreement
After we have talked and decided that I am a good resource for you, I will prepare a service agreement including professional fees that sets expectations for our collaborative work together. It will include details on both writing and coaching because I provide multiple services for so many of my clients. Work can begin after I have your signed agreement that confirms that you are agreeing to all of the terms. If you are a returning client, and our last work together was more than one year ago, you will receive a new service agreement.
Time is of the Essence
Most of my clients are currently employed, so I appreciate the challenges of fulfilling your work and family obligations while focusing on writing or coaching. However, it is important to have continuity of thought for both of us. We should wait to start this collaborative work until you have the time and energy to devote to this.
Questionnaire and Other Preparation Material for Writing
I will provide a proprietary questionnaire that I have developed since 2003 while writing and coaching for hundreds of clients. This tool will give you an opportunity to provide detailed content that can be included in your new resume. I ask that you respect my work and not forward or publish any of the content to others. Additional information might be requested such as performance reviews.
Scope of Writing Projects
Professional fees are quoted based on your initial information. If additional significant content is sent that extends the project scope (such as the addition of an addendum), additional fees might be incurred. If a separate and repositioned resume is requested, we will set professional fees at that time. Additional documents beyond a resume can include writing such as cover letters and executive bios.
Accuracy of Information
I do not verify information that you provide such as employment history, skills, education, accomplishments, certifications and licenses. If there is information on your current resume that is not accurate, we will find a way to present the information correctly and professionally.
I maintain a rolling calendar that changes daily as some projects are finalized, and preparation material is submitted by someone else for new writing. My normal turnaround for first drafts is usually 5 to 7 business days. Turnaround of second drafts is usually completed within 5 days. I always deliver sooner when I can.
I rarely offer rush services because I do not want to shortchange the writing processes I have developed since 2003. However, if you have specific needs, contact me, and we will decide if it is feasible. Fees will be quoted for rush and/or weekend work.
Proofreading and Approval of Final Documents
I am fully committed to providing documents that are free of errors. However, you are ultimately responsible for the completeness and accuracy of all documents. Do not send anything to third parties without your own thorough review. We are not liable to you or to third parties for any injury or damage related to typos, errors, omissions, false statements, or other inaccuracies. The services of a professional proofreader are available.
I will consider that documents are complete 30 days after delivery of the first draft unless I hear back from you before that time. Additional charges may be incurred for an extended project.
I cannot directly help you apply for an online job applications from my own computer. However I can give you specific guidance on how to do this.
I do not engage subcontractors for either writing or coaching. I perform all the writing and coaching myself. However, the services of a professional proofreader are available.
There are many versions of Microsoft Word. I currently use Microsoft 2013. I cannot guarantee compatibility with your systems or that documents will retain their original formatting. I do not provide technical support due to the wide variety of computer software and hardware available for client use.
Retention of Your Documents
I have redundant records for all documents. They are attached to your account in my ACT database. I have an Outlook file folder for each client that also includes all correspondence. I use Carbonite as my online backup. However, I cannot guarantee that I will be able to have access to your documents in the future. I name all of the document files with your name and the date delivered because I have so many clients who return to me for additional writing services.
LinkedIn makes numerous changes and updates on an ongoing basis. I regularly receive current information about best practices through my LinkedIn itself, professional associations, colleagues, and other industry sources. However, I cannot guarantee that current writing or coaching will be optimal for future changes that LinkedIn might make.
I cannot go directly into your profile because it is against T&C for you to give me access, even with your permission. I can provide guidance, but you are legally responsibility for all content you publish in your profile. Tools for Transition also has no liability for activities and actions you take during your use of LinkedIn.
I have written for clients in countries around the world. Documents need to be written in English with U.S. standard formats. Work can be done by phone, email, remote access calls, and Skype. Payments are made in U.S. currency through PayPal or cashier’s check.
Quotes are valid for 30 days.
Payment is due in full before writing can begin. It is also due at the time that appointments are held. Terms are net 10 for corporate clients. A retainer can be set up for ongoing work.
Confidentiality and Privacy
I will maintain the confidentiality of all your information, including personal contact information, coaching notes, and written documents. If a third party such as a company or another individual is paying your professional fees, I will still keep confidentiality of work we do together.
I occasionally adapt specific resumes that I have written for other uses such as samples on my website. I always remove all identifying information such as names, addresses, contact information, and names of employers to maintain confidentiality.
I do not provide any guarantees of interviews, employment or job search success. Your resume, other documents, and coaching are tools to be used as an integral part of your job search process. I do not have control over how you make use of the work we do together.
You are personally and legally responsible for all decisions you make as a result of your work with Tools for Transition. My liability is limited to the completion of work based on the complete and accurate information that you provide. I am not an attorney, and I cannot give any legal advice.
Because of the nature of my individualized writing and coaching services, payments are not refundable or cancellable once work has begun. I will assume that you are satisfied with any coaching session unless expressed otherwise at the time. I reserve the right to refuse service, terminate a client relationship, or otherwise cancel orders at my discretion. I am fully committed to achieving full satisfaction for all of my clients.
You authorize Tools for Transition to charge your credit/debit card for services ordered when payment is made by phone, PayPal or online through the Tools for Transition website. You further authorize use of your email as a means of communication.
